Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

Hi! In term 6 we are planning a week based around Renoir's Les Parapluies, inspired by the National Gallery's Take One Picture. Obviously this is a great chance to link to some French, and I was wondering whether anyone could point me in the direction of anything to do with this picture, or umbrellas, or weather, in French, suitable for KS1! (I don't ask for much!)
Many thanks!

For a bit of practical fun can you get hold of a parachute for some parachute games in French? - I suppose it's kind of like a big umbrella everyone can run under! Use the colours to begin with - call out rouge et jaune and the children holding onto those coloured sections need to run under and swap places. Then attribute simple weather phrases to the different coloured sections Il pleut/il fait beau/il fait mauvais/il fait du soleil and call one out at a time and everone holding that secion must move. Then combine! Have fun... (must try this myself...just thought of it off the top of my head!!!)

Oops, copied and pasted the paste but just realised there are some spelling mistakes.

EMILIE:
La sorcière ne veut plus être méchante. Il faut absolument trouver le prince charmant. Y'en a un à moi?

LE CONTEUR:
Dans tous les contes il y a une sorcière et un prince charmant. Pour l'équilibre.

EMILIE:
On va le chercher!

LE CONTEUR:
C'est le plus facile à dire qu'à faire. Mais allons-y. Tourne la page suivante.

EMILIE:
Oh, des parapluies... Les dizaines de parapluies!

LE CONTEUR:
En effet, ce sont des parapluies

LA BALEINE DE PARAPLUIE:
On a bien dormi
Sous nos parapluies
On a bien rêvé
Sous nos ombrelles de papier
On est des baleines, mais pas des baleines de mer
On est en fer
Et l'eau qu'on connaît ici
C'est l'eau de la pluie
On est des baleines de parapluies

CHOEURS:
On est des baleines de parapluies!

Hi, how about Les Baleines de parapluie, as in the musical tale "Emilie Jolie"? The video would be ideal, but can't seem to find it on Youtube.

Hi! Thanks again, lots of useful things here. Here (hopefully!) are my flashcards. They are not very exciting, and actually I prefer some of the Sparklebox images above, so I might change them. weatherflashcards.doc

Got to say am doing some work on Joan Miro- the Spanish painter, in one of my schools. All leading up to a creative week in school in Jne so I a laying the foundations now and am getting quite into it- lots of mathematical language and carroll diagrams, etc! In Spanish! Seems to be going okay if anyone wants to take a look?! Let me know.

Now for some weather links - some of these might be a bit KS2 but maybe you can adapt them?

Daily weather chart to print and laminate and put in your classroom from TES resources or here is one for the IWB from Kent ICT.

and here is a Hampshire junior school who persuaded their local weather girl to come in to school and film with them for the day.

Hi Jane - in the comment box where you type a reply or comment like this one, can you see the little row of icons? There is a B (highlight text and click and when you save the text will be BOLD and an I for italic and a u to underline text). Next there should be a little chain - if you highlight text then click on the chain you are invited to type or paste in a web address to hyperlink to, then click save. The next icon is a camera so you would click this to upload a picture - it works like adding an attachment to an email. Finally there is an icon of a sheet of paper - this is to upload documents such as word docs, pdf files, powerpoints that sort of thing. It works just like an attachment to an email, just click, browse to find the doc on your computer, click upload & wait a few munites and then save.

Don't worry about the gobblydeegook that appears when you first click save - it is computerspeak and should look ok once you have clicked 'add comment' (the brown box bottom right)
Hope this helps!

Thank you Lorraine - that is really useful. I have a 6 year old daughter, and we have just been practicing the songs together! We like Barnaby Bear too. I will be using these ideas with my class. I have made some weather flashcards that I would like to share, but I am not completely sure how to attach them? Many thanks.

Ooh, just discovered this site.! Not in French but the Yr 1 & 2 kids would love it and then you could copy the idea into a Smartboard and do in French.
