Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

Thought I'd share this with everyone- very excited! Sad! Have been using a voice recorder for a long time in the 'language' classroom which has a USB so the children can hear themselves straightaway but have now purchased a Flip Video Recorder- yes I bought the pink one! It has a USB too so videos can be uploaded and watched straightaway too . Have been playing with it with my own children and have had lots of fun. At the moment they are selling them at toys r us for £50 which is a bargain! Very easy to use and seems very clear too. Impressed!

Our high school has 2 dozen of these to be signed out to teachers for classroom use. I used a couple over several days in June to record student conversations as part of two final oral exam questions. It was easy afterwards to "flip" through the videos to watch them quickly and grade their efforts. (for French)- and it made a different environment for the students to perform in, as opposed to the digital language lab, which just records their speech. The students did not think of it as an exam section because it was so fun.

I've read the reviews and seen demos. I like its compactness and child-friendly aspects. What we need to remember is that a £50 Digital camera can do all the same things - sometimes better. But I can see having a stock of these for a class would be a massive improvement on the Digital Blue camera.

Just checked this one- it's got a 2gb memory and can store up to an hour internally. all videos can then be stored on computer. you can even take stills from your videos but I haven't had a go at that yet! Got to say I'm still impressed.

In Argos they're about £100. Found a few cheaper ones but only 1GB memory so not sure how good they'll be.
