Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

So - yes, it's probably not even called that . . . but I'm at home and the folder with information is at school.

The HT decided that - while most children are away on residential for the week - the remainder of Y5/Y6 could work with me and send something to our partner school. The small primary school in France has already sent photographs of children : we had to decide which child was which by reading info on an 'identity card' which described features such as hair, glasses, clothes, etc.

OK - we can do that (even though these pictures arrived two years ago)

Does anyone have any other ideas - based on experience, or not, that could help me in the coming week?

Best wishes to all! Francis

what about a powerpoint calendar - as a class project. Each create a slide and in the title put the month in French, then insert a picture chosen by the, selves to represent that month in your school/area and then fuinally insert a table with days of week in French and numbered underneath the picute with the appropriate dates for that month. Save all in one powerpoint of 12 slides and ask the partner school to do the same for you in English?

Great idea from Jan. You could include a CD-ROM with video clips of your pupils singing some Christmas songs with lyric documents. They could include a brief outline of a typical Christmas day using a pro-forma you devise, and a typical Christmas meal. Ask the French school to reciprocate.

Thanks Jan! I SO like this site! That sounds like a great idea. Just checked out your page, too. Thanks for your help - I'll be back :)

It isn't long `til Christmas- make up a Christmas box of artefacts and info about Christmas in UK and send them as a Christmas present to your French school. Include Christmas cards that the children have made with greetings in French and English.
Hits all sorts of buttons: Intercultural Understanding, children's writing, display..............
The French teachers will love you for it and you can encourage them to do the same. Christmas is relatively low key in France and New Year cards are more the norm.
Ask them for artefacts, brochures, posters etc. for St Nicolas and La Fete des Rois and you could have some of your January lessons sorted too !

One way to improve your skills in speaking and writing English is listening. You can listen to English programs everyday for 30 minutes. For listening, it is recommended to listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Th...
