Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

Below is a powerpoint slideshow of games and activities to play in the classroom to help language learning at all levels and I've cross-posted this onto the TES forum to make sure everyone gets to share. The list was started by a TES forum and I would love to keep on adding and updating it - so if you would be so kind as to add your own favourite ideas in the comments below I will add them to the presentation asap for us all to use.

Hiya some great games here! Thanks

Here's another couple- wink murder which most people have heard of. A person is sent out the room while a 'murderer' is chosen. The detective comes in and tries to spot the murderer who 'kills' people by winking at them. To include the TL the child has to say a phrase that has recently been learnt or a single word. They then take great delight in 'dying!'

Another one- Write on the white board a list of phrases/ words etc. A 'detective' is sent out, while inside a child is designated as 'it.' When the detective returns , the class keep chanting the first phrase/ word on the board until 'it' makes the pre agreed signal (ie scratching his/her nose/ messing with ear), upon which they move onto the next word/ phrase. The detective has to work out who is making the signal.

Have also done one similar to pass the parcel which was on the slideshare. I played some Spanish music whilst the class walked around (very sensibly, of course!). When the music stopped, the children also stopped and asked the person closest to them a question in Spanish or just said Hola or a phrase of your/ their choice. Once they had replied they moved on and the music resumed!
