Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

The attached PowerPoint slides are designed to practice numbers in French (though you could easily adapt them to Spanish or German). I made them in the hope of using them to reinforce the concept of number and be slightly more cognitively demanding in a mathematical manner while using the minimum language. (As ever, I am eternally grateful to Joe Dale for showing me how to use triggers in PowerPoint slides in order to make these sorts of games possible.)

The games need only the numbers 0-10 and the names of the operations ( + - x = ) in French (or Spanish or German) to be taught first. Then lots of opportunity to practise the numbers is given, but in hopefully, a slightly more demanding way than just chanting numbers backwards and forwards. I've also included an explanation of how to do 'Maths karate'.

I am sure you can all think of your favourite maths/language-learning games and resources too and I would love to hear them. Among my favourites are the number fans and the counting bead stick, but also when I get a chance to use an interactive whiteboard the ITPs from DCSF are wonderful (and free)!

And here are some nice little maths sites in French:

Thanks Jo, it is nice to think they're not totally useless, although one is always wishing to tweak them. I've already added some feminine transports for next year.

Thanks Jo! Have a look at http://matoumatheux.ac-rennes.fr/accueil.htm. One I really like is
http://www.mathkang.org/pb7/default.asp, which gives you one problem a day.
