Our kids are into Halloween BIG TIME, so I decided to cash is on this and link it to a festival which is very important in Mexico. The first lesson has been watching video of how it is celebrated in Oaxaca, followed by learning Halloween words and a song from Espanol Espanol with extension of researching how it is celebrated. I did a smartnotebook to go with this.
The next lesson has been taking it one step further, as the dead are always represented as skeletons doing what they did in life, for example a dead me would probably be shown beavering away on a computer with an aeroplane in the background. So for this lesson the kids will think about what sums them up and then make a skeleton to match. There is also the chance to introduce body parts while skeleton building. I am teaching this as to the 4's who have been doing skeletons so it links nicely there. Not yet decided as to whether we will learn Head Shoulders Knees and Toes or listen for Me gusta in the Manu Chao song. Think this will definitely be a see what I feel like in the morning one.
