Los egipcios

I've just written a very long post on my website about making links between Spanish learning and the Egyptians, a popular theme/topic in primary schools.

I won't copy it all here - click the image on the left to take you there and feel free to leave comments!

However, below is an extract!

Ideas from other…

Sing Spanish Phonics

Since my change of role in September, I have a lot more spare time, and have been filling some of it in the last couple of weeks making up some songs to help my KS2s with their phonics in Spanish.  So far I've done one for the "j" sound and one for the "th" sound.  You can download them and accompanying resources here (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

La araña pequeñita

Here's a Voki I made yesterday in my session at the Primary Language Show, using a song I'd recorded for a non-Spanish speaker to use with her class.

Sadly no spider avatar on Voki, but I did manage some rain.....…

Primary Languages Show 2010 - blog post

I had a fantastic time at the Primary Languages Show on Friday 12th March, and have blogged it for anyone who couldn't be there or who did different workshops.

Canciones de Navidad Wallwisher

In an idle moment this afternoon, I made a Wallwisher of Christmas songs in Spanish (and a few in Catalan as I couldn't resist!)

Feel free to add your own!

For some unknown reason, the wall won't embed so here's the link! http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/navidades

BBC Primary French and Spanish website - Have your say!

I'm helping the producers of the BBC schools website a bit this week, giving them some suggestions about their Primary French and Spanish pages.
If you haven't seen them, there are animated characters to help you speak the language, games to practice the vocabulary in each section, and some interesting fact files about the…

Ideas for Christmas

It's December, and Jo has decorated the page, so guess we'd better acknowledge that Christmas is coming! So, in case you don't find it all by yourself, I thought I'd point you towards a post on my blog entitled Resources for Christmas. I could just copy it all here but I don't like to do that too often as it seems like cheating to me. So if you're interested, all you have to do is… Continue

La canción de las brujas

This is to go with Jo's brilliant post on La sorciere de minuit - but in Spanish!

Here's a Spanish song about witches -

And if that one's a bit complicated / it scary for you, here's a lovely short one about a mad witch.…

¡Pocoyó!

Although my boys are getting older, we still love Pocoyo. And so do many of the kids at school. They're really interested when I tell them that Pocoyo is Spanish for little me and worked out for themselves that Pato might mean duck in Spanish.

So when we went to Spain and saw Pocoyo in Spanish on TVE it made perfect sense ( we watched JimJam and Sunny too - that was a bit more odd!)

And when i found videos on Youtube, I was very pleased, and thought I'd share a… Continue

Take Ten En Español

Yesterday I was lucky enough to catch up with Tracy Adams, a Devon Primary Languages Consultant who is currently working with Chris Wakely on 'Take Ten En Español'. This handy pocket-sized resource with accompanying DVD and Karaoke CD will be out later in the Autumn term - and not a moment too soon for those of us who have already come across… Continue

Theatre in Spanish for primary children

Thought I would bring this to the attention of folks who do Spanish, especially as you seem to lose out to French in terms of resources and so on. A Cuerpo is a theatre company offering performances, workshops and resources for KS2 Spanish. They are based in the Leicester but could travel further afield.

La Vaca Lola

Just found the cutest video on Youtube for Spanish.

I've just blogged about it on my blog but thought it was too good to not share with you (in case you don't read ¡Vámonos!)

So here it is -

I've copied my blog post beneath - don't make a habit of it, but really do have to get on with my planning!

The words are -…

Navidad, Navidad.

At this time of year, all is completely haywire at school and it's really hard to get anything completed when you're only in (officially) two days a week! So I am particularly proud of managing to submit the December task for Voices of the World

This may have something to do with the fact that the tasks are all intended to be fairly easy and stress free, and also to the enthusiasm of the kids. After having the majority of Key…

¡Estoy dando saltos!

I wanted to quickly share something with you all as I'm SO excited and chuffed, and also I hope it will encourage you.

As some of you may know, I am PLL (and eTwinning) coordinator at a primary school where I work two days a week, teaching Spanish in PPA time.

From this year, the whole of the school will be learning Spanish - from Nursery to Year 6.

Up until the end of last year I taught all the Key Stage 1 and 2 Spanish, but this year I'm only… Continue

EDL and Rugby!

What a mixture, eh! But they are related - in my mind anyway!

Just over a week left before we're back to school and my mind is seriously turning to what to do on my alloted display boards. Don't know how I managed it, but I've got three - to everyone else's two per year group - guess it has something to do with my ability to fill them! Anyway, I love displays and in my previous school I even got a point for being 'display… Continue
