Flashcards are essential in MFL teaching to Introduce new vocabulary. Create an audio / visual link between object + sound + word. Reinforce and aid memory.

Looking forward to our (Devon South) next RSG meeting with Maggie Peacock and Alison - who will sadly be attending for the last time before she decamps to Switzerland. (I am sooo jealous Ali!) Jenny Smith will be there too in her role as PLC.

I wondered if anyone might be interested in having a look at the rolling program we use at Kingswear Primary.
It is based on the model Joan Dickie has made popular, but with some adaptations to suit our children and the whole school curriculum. It runs over 4 years - A, B, C & D (to accomodate children through yrs.3-6) and is simplified in the table below.

I teach in one of the many tiny schools in Devon and went to visit the teaching Head of a similar size school to discuss how to plan teaching MFL to a whole KS2 class - that's Years 3,4,5 and 6 altogether.
While the downside might be that on top of extreme ability ranges, there is also a new Year 3 with no previous language learning arriving every year while the rest of the class are starting to feel like they've seen it all before...(phew)..there is also the flip side; childr
