OFSTED

Hi all - we had a subject OFSTED this week for Primary Langugaes -really scary thought but it went really well and am thrilled with the outcome. All that hard work over the last 3 years has definitely paid off! Off to Liverpool tomorrow -see some of you there.

French Stories online

http://www.racontine.com/

This excellent website provides online stories in French which are read by a native speaker. Pages are turned interactively and there are loads of different ones including a Christmas story

Talking Greek!

Our year 5s started their topic "Ancient and Modern" this week which will take them up to Christmas and will include Myths and Legends and Ancient Greece. They began the week dressed as if going on holiday to Greece, with a bag packed with 5 important items! So I joined in the spirit of EDL and Cross curricular teaching and spent half an hour on the bbc website learning enough Greek to teach them something worthwhile. Linking up to the website during the lesson helped enormousl

European Day of Languages 2007

So this year we finally managed to get our act together and do something really inspiring for EDL! Our local secondary school offered the time, classroom space and student help, the network provided the funding (see previous Blog post) and Loughton provided 120 enthusiastic year 5 pupils keen to see the inside of what may be their next school but even more keen to taste the delicious croisssants and pains au chocolat we had promised.

Thanks Jane! I will pass on your comments to them. Have you seen my blog post about the whole unit - admittedly we did it in Spanish but you might find another idea you like!

All the resources I used are downloadable and easily adapted I'm sure!

Hi there Jane,
Glad you liked the Hungry Caterpillar display. I've edited the blog slightly to include information about the mini-books that are shown in the slides, since this concept would work in any language and would give young pupils the opportunity to practise writing some key vocabulary. Anyway, Viel Glück with the German unit of work and why not take a look at the song on this link just in case it's of use to you...

Thank you Jane - two great blog posts - are you happy for them to go onto the main page (the network automatically features the most recent posts by default) ?

Fantastic! Please do write about it for us. Very impressed that you got money out of LA to meet up too! We had fun too -especially the Haka before rugby (doesn't look so good in a photo we've discovered though!?) One of our TA's took an impromptu group to do some sign-language at lunchtime too which was a lovely addition to the day. Glad you had fun and it all worked out. And like you say it is great to see your yr6 when they have turned into yr7 and they are all grown up...

Hi Jane - have fun at the cafe (really lovely idea, was it tough to co-ordinate?) - bon appetit!

Hi Jane
I hope you enjoy our lovely little group. I am also curious about your Russian. How do the children respond? Is it hard to find suitable materials?
If you need anything for French or German, do feel free to check my delicious tags on my blog ay http://isabellejones.blogspot.com (look in the right column and click on the relevant key word). I also have a Russian tag but there is not as much as it is not a language I teach, so I do not actively search for Russian links.

I hope it is useful to you anyway.

Hi Jane - I see Lisa has beaten me to it and already welcomed you to the network. Just in case here is the blurb about how to find your way around the site:

In case this is your first 'ning' network, here is how it works;

Welcome to our networking site. I hope you find it useful and do please post things here whenever you want; you could tell us what you've been up to in a blog post, ask general questions/start discussions in the forum or just click directly on members to chat or ask specific questions to people.

We welcome each other's comments on the forum discussions andyou can make your own blog pages whenever you wish; At the moment all blogs get automatically posted onto the Main page but if you are new to blogging and want to try on your own page without this happening just click on me and leave me a message.

You should be able to download materials from forum and blog posts too, and of course add your own in the same way as you would an email attachment - just follow the instructions on screen.

You probably know this already, but just in case - to contact someone just find them in members and click on them. This takes you to their page and tells you a little about that person. Then just leave a message for them in a comment box like this one. Or, if you'd like your message to be private, click on 'send a message' beneath their picture.

Ocasionally you will get messages asking if you would like to be someone's 'friend'. The only advantage to this is if you want to find someone quickly on a large network, otherwise there is really no need and you can happily ignore the request or click 'decline' with no offence to anyone.

I hope you find the network useful.
Best wishes, Jo
