Hang in there Sharon - it is worth it in the end. I worked for free for half a term and set up several after school clubs to pay the rent/petrol but it was worth it in the end.
Just keep being persistent and knocking on doors!
Good luck and fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Sharon, It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The tutors really went out of their way to put us at ease. Now i suppose it is just a question of waiting. They did say it would take a while so I think I am going to approach a couple of secondary schools in the area.
Hows your course going?

Hi Sharon,
Just wondered how it went at the OU. I have an interview with them in 10 days time and would like to ask you about the written test in the target language.

thanks

Thanks for the reply Sharon. I've 3 teenage children myself and a shift-worker hubbie so I know what it's like finding the time to study! Some weeks I get very little done and have to cram at week-ends but it really isn't the most effective method of learning! I've chosen OU myself because of their flexibility but the main drawback with a languages degree is the lack of opportunity for oral practise - my reading, writing and listening skills are all far more developed. Currently waiting for exam results before moving on to the level 3 French course - will find out mid Decemberish.

All the best for next month ... and thereafter.

Hi Sharon, Hope you don't mind me leaving you a message direct on your page? I wanted to wish you the best of luck with your forthcoming interview and, since I'm currently studying languages with the OU myself, wanted to be a bit 'nosey' really 'cos I was also thinking about their flexible PGCE for the future.
Was your degree awarded by the OU or otherwise?
Is it a foreign language based degree or not?
What made you decide to pursue the PGCE with them rather than another provider?
Do you think you could 'fill me in' with some straight-talking opinions about how you feel the PGCE course is progressing? - (once you're accepted of course!)
Please feel free to tell me I'm being too nosey if I've 'overstepped the mark'
Hope to chat soon - post me any responses on my page please - I'll send out a friend request too!

Jayne :)

I did 'count the spiders' on the poster from a couple of years ago - that went down well! Looking at the pictures of the jobs, acting them out or giving them the name of a language and they have to think of a job / mime that starts with the same letter. What about learning a rhyme in a different language? Ask the kids if they know any? Get them to teach you something in their language (if there are any ESL kids!) Multilingual colouring sheet - don't know where I got it from but could scan it and send - then you can discuss colours in different languages - similarities and difference.
that keep you going??
