- I will/do teach the following languages:
- French, German, Spanish
- About Me:
- Originally specialist German with French subsid. Always been incredibly enthusiastic about languages in primary age range but had little opportunity to put into practice - apart from wet Games lessons when we inevitably played Pumpernickel sagt, Simon dit! Also always done the register in a foreign language. Recently added Spanish to my repertoire. After my family I ended up on long-term supply, teaching right across the curriculum and age ranges up to yr 8 until the end of 2011, when all our middle schools closed. No supply around now unfortunately.
- I teach languages to these Year groups:
- Reception to year 6 -but only on rare occasions

- Ladybird beanbag to elicit quick response. Puppets! Stick,paper bag, wooden spoon, socks etc and now my new 'Nounours', and Girl & Boy puppets to 'talk to' and 'with' the children.

- Thank you Lorraine for directing me to this site. Have ordered a few books from amazon today including 'the cat in the hat' in French and 'the very hungry caterpillar' in Spanish and French...if I never use them in class I'll use them with my own kids. As for Italian, yes 'ciao' works, and 'Buon Giorno' is the Bonjour equivalent!

- Hi Lorraine, I use two swagbag style bags that I got from Ikea. Then for example when we are doing colours in French, I have identical toys/items of different colours in each bag (eg a yellow chicken, a pink peg, etc). We all go through these as a class and say the colour as I put the items in the bag. Then two children come to the front. Another child asks for rouge, maybe. Then both children must try to be the first to find the object in the bag without looking. The get very excited about it! This can be adapted for different themes like food or animals. I hope this helps!

- I was the one who volunteered to be Katharina Ritter's Erzählkind. Red hair. Actually I took up Maike Alex's invitation to go and see Katharina Ritter at the south London primary school the following Monday morning. It was great. Two classes of children from a very deprived area, only one of which had learnt German, and she kept them captivated for an hour, telling the stories mostly in German.
