Hi Helen,
I really like your idea about about adapting the Hungry Caterpillar text by changing the principal character and altering the type of objects he/she likes to eat. It's a great way to get pupils motivated to write in any target language and really does add a new dimension to the story. Can't wait to see the photos... and I for one will follow suit and use your idea in the future. Thanks :)
·I wrote this last January as I was setting up the MFL at school:
EarlyStart French published by ell
This is a multimedia pack coming in an A4 folder including DVD, CD, lesson plans and photocopiable sheets. It has come highly recommended and I have borrowed it from the Wheathamspted library to use over the next 2 weeks to make absolutely sure it is right for Dundale. It would provide the basis for our French teaching and be ideal for the non-specialist.
It has a web site with additional support.
There are currently two folders available with a third to be published shortly. Our current needs would be met by folder one “Salut! Ca Va?” But we would make use of folder two next year.
I have also chosen this above other published schemes as we have Espresso as an interactive tool so don’t need a web based resource.
Having used it for a year now, I'm still impressed...especially the DVD with French children speaking. The topics covered fit well with Primary topics.

Nice picture! Well done! Who makes Salut Ca va by the way? Is it the same as Salut Serge or am I mixing them up? Better go do some washing before bed quickly now..
take care, jox
I can't believe it's taken me a year to become aware of this forum! I volunteered to get MFL going in our Primary school here in Herts last January and absolutely love it! I started with Y5 but now teach the French for Y6 and my Y3/4 classe but continue to do all the planning for Y5. This afternoon I'm teaching 3 demo lessons for collegues who are less confident/skilled in French. I also set up a twice yearly liason meeting between our local Comprehensive and the 5 feeder schools. We bought Salut Ca Va which is great. Have also subscribed to Atantot. I spend loads of time making resources so will try to upload in due course.
Hope to get some more friends on this forum soon!....and add my photo!

Hi Helen
- got all excited for a minute and thought you had mixed yr 3 4 5 and 6 all in one class (like me) - then I re-read it - doh! Still mixed year classes present similar problems (and advantages) so hope to share tips with you sometime..
Meanwhile welcome to our little network which I hope you find friendly and useful. Please feel free to explore the site and any techie probs/q's finding your way about leave me a message.
