New BBC websites...

Just updating my blog today, (and thanks Jo for your ideas for links), when I came across the new improved BBC Primary Spanish and French sites. They look really promising, although still have resources to be added. Also, the original ones are closing down in early 2011 so I guess we make the most of them now while we can!…See More

European Day of Languages teacher competition

I have borrowed an idea from the mflresources group, and created a sheet for all members of staff to use on Friday to celebrate EDL. Basically it is a competition for them, as they will use a word or phrase or even phrases during the day, and pupils will initial their sheet when they hear them. The most 'merits' (initials) will win that teacher/staff member a prize. Just something to raise the profile of languages and for all to have a bit of fun. It's all explained on the sheet.I've attached…See More

Profile Information

I will/do teach the following languages:
French, Spanish
About Me:
I transferred from secondary to primary in Sept 08, and now work p/t teaching French to years 1-6 and run a Spanish club. I work pretty much in isolation so appreciate the support from a group like this. This year's plans are to research and implement guidance coming from the Primary Curriculum review. I'm focusing at the moment on links with literacy, researching monitoring and assessment, and wondering about a school policy on MFL. There's a lot to keep up with isn't there!

Hi Caroline,
Thanks for welcome! As you know I love this site - however, it seems to have taken me years to actually sign up...
See you soon

Hello
good to hear from you. Glad thinks are going well.
Things are great here. My team of tutors has grown somewhat, and we're doing more business training than before. I still love the Primary work though. - I'll be quite sad when the year 6's leave this time though as I'll have ben teaching them for 4 years.
Glad Les Amis de la Ferme works for you. Annoyingly catchy, isn't it?!

Hi Mark
Thanks for your message. Yes, I've done a couple of days in Primary this month, ordering resources for September and attending my first Network meeting which was interesting. I'm really looking forward to the change, but still have a lot to do in my secondary school before I can make the change mentally!

I look forward to being more creative and using more songs, role plays, and hopefully I would like to investigate linking with another primary in France too. My Head suggested we find out if we can link with our twin town, but just haven't had the chance to do it yet. I'm sure I will be sharing ideas (asking questions) about this very soon!

Thanks for the contact,
Caroline

Hi Caroline - you sound as if your move to the primary sector mirrors my own. Good Luck! I'm sure you will find a lot on here to help.

Hi Caroline

No mess-up here!!! We are well and truly "friends". The difference it makes is that you can contact me direct if you wish to.
I hope my blog is of use too. Do let me know if there is something you like/ dislike in particular. I will also try to get my Spanish group going on here too...

Hi Caroline

I am sure you will love our friendly group. You may be intested in the French and Spanish links to resources I have on my blog. To find the links, go to My Languages then scroll down to a long list of keywords to the right (delicious tags), just click on the relevant keyword to get an updated list of links to resources e.g. French, Spanish... You can filter for just Primary resources by clicking +primary to get a list of French/ Spanish Primary resources only.

I hope it is of use...

Hi Jo, nice to be contacted so swiftly!
I will just be teaching languages, come September, a day and a half per week, but this may rise next year. The HT also hopes to offer me more work within the school, covering staff who are absent, as she likes to use 'her' staff, so I hope to get extra days here and there, and gain experience in the primary classroom. She also hopes to expand my input into her Nursery children, so I'm looking forward to teaching the whole age range. Really looking forward to it, can't wait to leave my secondary and the piles of marking and all the annoying paperwork/exams/levelling/testing. Things which are really preventing me from teaching the way I want to and the things I want to. I want to enjoy more songs, stories, games and fun in the classroom with more motivated little people!
