I am a Spanish specialist teaching whole school from Early Years through to KS2. My primary school has just switched their MFL from French to Spanish and I am planning on running a staff INSET to promote the language and encourage the non speaking teachers to embed the language in their classrooms. Does anyone have any fun ideas for INSET or previous INSET presentations you could send me for ideas?
Hi Sara,
I did a Spanish inset day with my staff last year who didn't have any prior knowledge of Spanish - perhaps yours do ... Anyway, I started by teaching them numbers 1 to 10 and 9 body parts.
I then played Juan dice/Simon says and they had to touch the body part.
Then I gave them a body outline and labels with their new 9 words which they had to use to label the body - they got excited about who was going to finish first.
Then we played tres en rayas - noughts and crosses. I divided the staff into boys and girls and they were SO competitive that they really enjoyed it! They had to say the box numer in Spanish as well as the body part which they thought was hidden in that square.
I was also going to pass round a bag with a label in it and they were going to have to read the word out and indicated the relevant body part but we had run out of time so don't know how that would have gone.
Good luck! Mim Hodgson
