Talkabout Primary Languages

A network for anyone teaching languages to children

Hi All

I have been asked to possibly teach Spanish instead of French to some KS1and KS2 classes next year. This will be a new venture for me if I go ahead with it as the only Spanish I have is from a 30 hour CPD (I am experienced in French and Italian however). I know that lots of you are experienced Hispanists and so would really appreciate a fool-proof, and hopefully inexpensive, list of resources - song CDs, paper resources and (free) schemes that you would recommend.

And expect this to be the first request of many if this goes ahead!

The QCA scheme is a good place to start in terms of free schemes and I find it useful to dip into, although don't use it exclusively. In terms of other things Espanol Espanol is a very good resource of songs, and Take 10 Espanol is very good for PE related dances and activities in Spanish. The BBC also have a primary spanish site with a few little activities and games

Hola Barbara
Early start do a Spanish version. also check sub-group Spanish Primary discussions on this site where Isabelle Jones has posted something and there's a discussion on materials suitable for non-specialists. I also know Jolie Ronde do some Spanish materials and Grow story Grow is supposed to be adding more languages after Sept.

Hiya - there is also EDpaX which is a whiteboard resource. It comes in two discs- disc one is the basics and disc two covers the more advanced stuff. You can try before you buy on link below. Normally it is about £400 for the two but I received an email the other day saying they were doing them on offer at the moment- both for £199 with a workbook too. Don't think it's advertised at that price so you may have to push?

Good thing is it 'talks' for you and the staff which is good if a little nervous about pronunciation?

There is also some stuff at the top of this forum on home page under wiki spaces which go with the QCA scheme- may help?
