A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

I work in a church primary school where we say grace before dinner. My class want a lunchtime prayer in French. Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi Juliet

Not the easiest task to find something that is meaningful yet within the children's capability! You could get the (older) children to help you make one up on the lines of:

Merci Seigneur pour notre repas
Pour les/nos fruits
Pour le/notre poisson...etc.

Amen

This is a very meaningful activity for progression as it provides a model for writing phrases; it could involve relatively simple dictionary skills; it could be adapted on a daily basis depending on the menu (children take it in turns to write, choosing phrases from a list provided by you);the grace could be said by the class/individual child daily (performing for an audience); possessive adjectives can be used in a context with a very clear purpose and finally, this would truly embed French (or any other language) into the daily routine. Seems like a winner to me!

Think this is a really good opportunity, as Jan says to embed your French into the ordinary curriclum. Could also get older pupils to extend avtivity and think of all those involved in producing the food-including foreign countries, so providing some revision of known vocab.
