Talkabout Primary MFL

A network for anyone teaching languages in Primary

Hello everyone, apologies for repeating earlier queries (as I am sure to be doing) but i wonder if anyone is aware of a sow for teaching french to reception, year 1 and 2. I know there is a non-stat SoW on dfes website for KS2 but apart from spending lots of money I do not yet have (and never will I imagine) I cannot find anything and am reluctant to do a whole scheme by myself...a busy toddler and full-time job in january means I want to preserve any time I have to said toddler before working life beckons again. Most grateful for any labour-saving devices and just wanted to say what a fabulous network this is. Hope to get to know some of you...it seems a very friendly, supportive place. Thanks!

nouska, have you used any of the Thomas materials?

Attached is a Progress report-type card which could be used for AFL & APP.
I thought they could stick a sticker over a dot - orange nearly there & red not there(hopefully no-one) moving on to green for success. I thought if you wanted to show progress two dots for partner assessment, two for self and one for teacher.

These could be kept in some sort of folder or card system for easy reference.
Do let me know if you use them and any recommendations for adaptation.
Lorraine

Am so so sorry! thought I had replied to say thank you so much for your help. Also, I am working on a Sow for reception to year 3 at pre-prep (4-8yr olds) and will def share once done. I have to also be sure to lower any expectations as it will certainly not be as good as yours!

Thanks again for all your help!

That's really interesting, Lorraine - thanks for posting your work.

Sorry you couldn't find the Liverpool thing. When I've got a bit more time I'll type up the outline and post it on here. In fact, I should really have my own SoW - but I'll add that to the list of things to do. As I said, I'm only sort of following it - I just found it helpful having a starting point and then I twiddle things depending on the resources I have or whatever.

I've used quite a few of the songs on 'Chante en français 1' with all year groups.

How are you finding things with work and a toddler, Anouska? I'm doing 2 part time jobs in 2 schools and 2 under 4s of my own at home - and I'm pretty much all out!!

i do not know how you are coping!!? I find one enough of a challenge but 2 under fours and 2 schools, gosh, if I can help in any way by sending some resources i will. I am not sure where to add things I think might be useful, will look into it. Have a good week! Anouska

Have just stumbled on your strand - I have the SOW from Liverpool somewhere on this computer......here we go, hope it's useful, I certainly have dipped into it a number of times....

The answer to Anouska is "badly"!! Although 2 schools isn't too bad as there's a lot of overlap. 240 reports is a bit daunting though... Keep on smiling though, eh?

That's the one, Jan. I'll have a look at the changes I made to it. I know I've done a couple of stories in there - Handa's Surprise and Toute les Couleurs.
